Count down..

I know of 3 people that are counting down the days / hours. Tomorrow is Chief Slaytons last day of duty. WOW! He’s been a Battalion since before I was hired. I mentioned earlier that Pop drove Bobby for several years. As a Lieutenant, I also worked for Chief Slayton for a short period from Station #6. I often worked for Pop from time to time and had the honor of taking Bobby on a run or 20. Bobby, Pop and I also shared the same 2nd job of driving a charter bus and took many trips together. Heck..Bobby even helped paint my house. In short, Chief Slayton has been a good, long time personal and family friend. I’ll miss him. I will try to post more on him later this week but for now here’s one of the latest pics I have of me and him..

GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES CHIEF..WE’LL MISS YA! Tomorrow is also one of our dispatchers last day. Linda Wood has been one of my favorite dispatchers for some time. Calm, cool, clear and aware of whats happening. Now dont get me wrong.. we have several more really good dispatchers down there but for some reason it seems like I’ve always had Linda on the “bad ones”. I have a pic of her but it was sent in PDF format and I cant figure it out. I have my tech guy on it and will get her shot up soon. Good luck and best wishes to you as well Linda.. you too will be missed!
Guess I’m also counting down the days because in just a few I’m heading to OBX for the 4th of July! I can’t wait to unwind again for a day or 6. Now I’m not going in “cold turkey” cause I’ve been practicing up by hitting the river as often as possible. Been making hay in shorts so I’ve been “getting my tan on” as well. Anyway, I’ll try to update tomorrow with pics of Bobby and Linda. Don’t forget Rescue Me returns tomorrow night @10pm on FX as well. Until then, stay safe and in the house..

OMG!!.. Ok so I get it… you want regular updates.. Hey..I’m busy! This is my busy time of year! Hay season.. but consider I’m trying to change my life style too. Ive been on the lake.. on the river..wearing “flip flops”.. riding the bike etc.. trying to ease up a little..that’s what everyone wanted right? I haven’t posted in a bit but hey.. we’re at a crap hole that runs NO CALLS.. how much of what we eat or wash can you take? Last day we were more of plumbers than firemen.

Our City decided to spend millions on building / making “green” stations. The only thing is that they didn’t plan / budget to maintain these innovations. Yea.. if you sit long enough on the seat while reading the “morning paper” the lights go off to save electricity.. but we cant afford the money to change the filters on our water recycle system. Don’t believe me?? Our toilet water looks bad enough that I’m embarrassed for a civilian to come in and use the toilet. Why? It looks like we haven’t cleaned em…. Brown..dirty. Well guess what? We have been without hot or cold water for over a week… Yea..WITHOUT!!! No showers..no hot water dish washing..etc. Long story short.. a city worker came by to check in on us. Upset that we were still without, after a short talk; we went out to clean the filters that the FD couldn’t afford to change. Wanna know what they looked like?? Here’s what it looked like when we took it out…

Now here’s a look at while cleaning and the after affect…

WOW!! We spent millions and all it takes is for someone to wash em off / out! Imagine… if someone could be confident enough to tell an officer what.. how and when to do this how much money we’d save the city. Imagine if we hadn’t have taken the chance and did it on our own how much it would have cost when the system clogged up?? Is that progressive thinking? And here’s another thought.. GUESS WHAT… WE LIVE HERE! Yea.. 24 hrs a day.. this is OUR house! You designed and built it (having never lived in a firehouse) but WE live here. I’m ashamed! My boys deserve MORE! We all do! Green my BUTT…. Looks BROWN to me. Guess I should explain a little because I am disgruntled and my life right now is up side down! Nothing is going right! Work or personal… NOTHING!! I’m packing..cleaning out.. getting ready to paint and for hard wood floors at the house.. talk about stress. WOW! I never realized how big my house was until I began to pack it up… empty closets and drawers double the space..

Put this on top of hay and I’m at my LIMIT!! Ive gotten several comments in the last week but haven’t posted em. Yea.. everyone knows I haven’t updated on a regular basis and yea.. everybody has seen my new farm hand. Well guess what?? Female farm hands ain’t all what it seems to be. I don’t know what it is about them and glass in a tractor but I do know they don’t mix…

Been there done that! OMG!!!! My farm gals and tractor windows! I’m better off with the Buckaroo.. Think I would have learned that by now..

He’s been on the job and regular and I assume that you all can figure out that I’m NOT working this cycle. I’m on 13 and heading to OBX for the 4th. Heading out on Wednesday.. The 4th has a few special meanings for me and I’m not sure how they will all work out,,AGAIN I have a lot on my mind ( gotta figure the black dess..looking for a miricle.. jumps..rides.. blocks etc). Anyway.. I will update when I can.. I’m a little (ok,, a LOT) off right now but will get back in line. Give me a little time to sort things out and get back in tune. Hey if ya wanna gripe about posts..where’s #9 / 5???? Id like to see the new table.. Pics of the move…I hear it’s the BOMB!! Until I get right or off the beach.. pick on someone your own size.. PEACE OUT. Capt. Wines

Sorry…

I know its been a while since my last post and I apologize. The honest answer is that last day of last cycle I just didn’t feel like it. First day of this cycle I was off sick and that brings us to today. As usual, not much exciting to post on but I will take some time and bring ya all up to speed on what I’ve been in to. I’ve been sick but when not in the bed, busy.. REAL busy. On the farm, this is my busiest time of year. I know you’ve all heard the saying..make hay while the sun is shining. Well, it’s been shining and I’ve been making it. I had a late start due to the early rains and having lost my #1 farm hand hasn’t helped either. The good news is that I’m on the road to recovery. We have a new piece in the fleet this season and for a much earlier commenter.. YES it’s green (and not the only green one I have either I might add…also have a 2555). John Deer 5510 complete with an operator… Here’s a few shots of the hay equipment..some of it anyway.

I also have to admit that the beach still has its grip on me. So, when not in the fields (and sometimes when I shoulda been instead) I opted for the next best thing. Float trips or days at the lake. I had forgotten how much fun tubing at the lake is! And hey… a lazy day down the river is just a fun.. unless you do Balcony Falls. Geesh … shoulda had a little more experienced co-pilot! Good thing I wore my water wings ;-)
Sorry I didn’t get any pics of the lake or river because my phone cam died on me (poor little thing takes a beating) and I’m too scared to carry the camera out on the water. The good news is that there are more trips in the very near future and I’ll work it out to snap a few. Oh yea.. the water, lake beach thing has continued even up to yesterday. Ol master blogger himself Rhett Fleitz threw his first annual Fleitz Family Luau yesterday and me and the Buckaroo made the trip out. Here’s a shot of the “master of ceremonies” himself sporting his festive Hawaiian shirt..

I guess I shouldn’t pick on little “Heidi Fleitz” for his attire because 1. It was a Luau and 2. He wasn’t the only one wearing one

Yep.. that’s ol “Bucket Head” Captain craft himself. In his defence though..that’s not a Hawaiian shirt he has on… at his size, it’s more like a Hawaiian BLANKET LMAO! Just kidding Capt. Shirts weren’t the only fashion statement on display either .. FLIP FLOPS were pretty popular too… and YES.. even I had on a pair (grown quite found of em actually)

The party was GREAT! Tons of food, fun and good company. The place was packed with kids and they had a blast as well. Here are a few shots of the Buckaroo mixing it up with “Big P” (Rhett’s son Preston) and others..

Never to hold anything back, Rhett even had some of them hula gals on site…well one anyway..

So thanks to Rhett, Becky and the Fleitz family for having me and the Buckaroo out.. Hope we can make next years. Ok, moving on HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! Hope everyone enjoyed the day and got to spend some time with the kiddos. Everyone knows that in this profession some of us have to be on duty no matter the holiday. Today is obviously C-shift’s day here in “The Noke” but the good news there is most fathers on duty will have gotten a call or visit. I called my dad 1st thing this morning and it’s had me thinking of him all day. I’m lucky enough to have not only just had a father who cared about me but one who also gave me a path to take.. foot steps to follow, if you will; which lead me to the job I love so dearly. It brought to mind a few photos I have. Me and Dad in front of Ladder #9 my first day on the job. Me and him in front of Ladder #1 his last day. I even got to work his last shift with him. Worked and wheeled Engine #6 (which he was riding that day
)to take him on his last run! How lucky is that? Here’s a pic of Pop standing by the Chief’s car (he drove for Chief Slayton for many of his last years here)and another of me and him cooking for one of the retiree breakfasts.

Anyway…Im thinking about ya today POP .. luv ya and Happy fathers day. You know..I’m also lucky enough to have a step father as well. Jerry lives in NC but has also contributed very much to my life and well being. He’s more of the farmer, cowboy type rather than a firemen. So you see, he fits in pretty well with my multi-sided life. He made the trip down last night and made a point to stop by the station today for a visit (which was cut short by a run) but never the less, he came. I was gonna snap a pic while he was here but we caught the run. Here’s one from my phone from back at the SC football game he came to watch

Happy Father’s Day to you too Jerry… thanks for coming by, I’ll see or talk to ya later this week.
Ok, so as far as the FD goes, today was typical. Trucks out of service, me riding the box blah blah blah. We got up in time to catch a few quick runs. A small grass fire and then burnt food. Here’s a shot of Coon out there “doing it” again..

Ok, so there’s an update in a nut shell. Here’s a little Jason Aldean for your listening pleasure… “On My Highway”
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov39z42M17I]
The whole CD is GREAT but this song kinda fits me …. The stress has been pretty high here lately but the good news is that if I can make it through next day (Tuesday)I’m off for another 13 and headed back to OBX for the 4th of July! I’ll try to have something a little more exciting to post next day .. until then, stay safe and in the house.

Man what a change! From the Southern Shores of Nags Head back to reality. Again I’m not so sure that “sick a day, Tuff a day” saying is all what it’s cracked up to be. The boys have done a good job of looking after me though so it hasn’t been that bad. The morning started off just as every other Tuesday or Friday does … MESSED UP! EMT-I class is each Tuesday and Friday so equipment gets placed out of service and people get shuffled. This morning, I went all the way over to the Southside by way of #2. I ended up at one of my old stomping grounds (where I served as Lt and my dad worked at for over 20 years) Station #6. Even they were out of regular members due to yet another Swift Water Rescue class going on at the same time. I have to admit though… this time I’d have rather been with them. Perfect weather and getting paid to go to McCoy Falls! Me… I hung out with my favorite “Yank” and rode the “BOX”.

Actually it wasn’t that bad … 1 little run and we were both back home for lunch. A thankfully quiet afternoon and evening here. Just ran our 1st of the day … a stabbing just up the street so business is probably gonna pick up :-(
We got the yard and garden taken care of, washed out the bay and then headed out to help a brother and now retired (disabled) Firefighter / Medic “Big” Dave Palmer. Dave’s family has been having a little trouble with his wheel chair and his kids had a ball game today that he was NOT gonna miss. Anyway, we cut the block and lent a hand to assure Big Dave got a front row seat. A trip well worth the time. I haven’t got to see Dave in a while plus… we really enjoyed the game. The kids play on a “special needs” team and let me tell you … EVERY ONE of those kids not only had a BLAST out there but, to me; were also inspiring. Talk about heart! WOW! Here’s a game shot and one of Dave…

We’re gonna head over to his house on Sunday and do a little repair work to his ramp so I’ll have a few more pics and an update then.
CONGRATULATIONS and a birthday wish (of sorts) are in order today as well. WAY..WAAAAY…WWWAAAAYYYYY back on June 11, 1984 our department hired the man now known as “SMURF”. Yep, today marks his 26th anniversary in the Department.

Good thing we’re celebrating his employment and not his age or the cake would look a little different

Smurf pulled some time at the “Old #3″ back when the “Squad” was there. Since those days, he has spent most of his career over at Station #6. He worked a lot with my dad and then worked opposite shifts of me while there as Lieutenant. He handles all of our SCBA’s. Maintenance, repair, masks, purchasing, testing etc. No small task when you figure EVERY life in the operations division is basically in his hands. He also did me one of the biggest favors I have ever received in my life back when my Step-mother was fighting cancer (I wont tell it but believe me.. I will never be able to return that one). So why do we call him smurf? Well, no… I didn’t give him the name but would bet my Pop had his hand in it. Maybe it’s because he has a thing for blue skinned blondes??

Maybe he matched one of the little “smurf” cartoon characters? Wait.. did they have a “Natty Light Smurf”? LMAO you choose

How about a “sneezy Smurf”..no..no wait, that was a drawf. Nah..anyway, that’s not why we call him Smurf. I know the story but will save it for another day / post. Here’s the REAL Smurf…

HAPPY 26th… CONGRATULATIONS and I hope these next 4 go by quick! That’s gonna wrap it up for tonight. Gonna keep bouncing in and out of reality and hit the river tomorrow (can’t get the beach etc out of my system)… BALCONY FALLS…WoooooWoooo (I hope). Catch ya on Sunday if the shoulder holds up. Until then, stay safe and in the house.

on the mend…

Ok..sorry I’ve missed the last few updates I’ve promised but I’m just a wee bit injured. Yea…busted..Broken, but on the mend. “Bedford” aka Brad Creasy from my olden days at the “real” #3 traded a little time and gave me an extra day to recoup…. AND I NEEDED IT! Thanks a million Bedford!!!! I wont forget it. Ok, so here he go with yet another long but quick update. In Charlotte, We LOST! BIG!! But, as always, we played like a team that has been in the league 5 or 10 years. Score?? 50 something to nothing….a butt whooping BUT they knew we were playing. Hard to explain with the numbers but trust me…. we played!! A good time and stay all in all and we learned a few things along the way. NPSFL look out next season! Here are a few pre-game pics.. sorry no action shots but nobody to hold the camera…

I left NC broken and bruised and headed to the outter banks for a few days R and R.

Retired Captain Gary Clark has had me “undder his wing” for some time now and this week was no exception. Days by the pool or beach with our feet proped up…

It took a little “getting adjusted to” but it wasn’t long before i traded in my wranglers, boots and cowboy hat for something a little more practical…yep..FLIP-FLOPS and short britches..

We did venture out every once in while. Finally got to go up in the light house in Currituck… wow what an awesome view

Good food, friends and rest… just what the Doctor ordered..

So that will wrap it up for now. Headed home and gonna attempt work tomorrow… I’ll check back in then..

Game update

We lost.. BIG. But played well and represented ourselves with pride. Some hard hitting and “old school” football. I’ll post in more detail tomorrow… I’m hurting just a wee bit and gonna get a nap before heading to OBX in the morning. I’ll catch ya sometime in between. No serious injuries and as always, we’re holding our heads high!

Had a “Bull Bucking” BLAST Friday night!

Yea, as soon as I posted the update of our arrival, I headed back out to Whisky River to hang out with the crew. I added a link just above and in last night’s post so you can see a little of what Dale Earnhardt Jr. has created here but let me tell ya… it’s 10 times better in person. The staff is professional and the service excellent. Every time I bellied up to the bar, the bar tender not only knew my drink (cool-aid), he also knew my color (yea…RED). The wait staff….Top notch and easy on the eyes.. DON’T SAY IT… YES that’s a pink shirt (or just really light orange LOL). I know I mentioned it in last night’s post but, they even have a BULL! Oh yeaaaa! Mean looking little sucker huh? Did we ride? Well…..yes and no. The Gals out did us. Yea …. like you didn’t know that already. Most of the guys didn’t want to risk injury the night before the big game so we decided to hold our rides until tonight. The girls on the other hand were knocking people down to get on that thing. Pushing, shoving, hair pulling…geesh…. felt like back home at Polumbo’s years ago. Even pretty little Sherrie (from the REMS office and Devin’s better half)made a ride. You know the only thing better looking than a girl riding a bull???? Her doing it in a dress! How’d she do????? see for yourself…
http://www.youtube.com/get_player
Tim Cady’s better half Christine pulled her boot straps up and took a ride or 20 too…

Like everyone who straddled the beast… our gals hit the mat a time or two but they bounced right back up and jumped on again.

So anyways… we had a good time. Some of the Cobra”s even hung out late with us… One heard I was a “star” tail back (had me confused with Hardee)so being the middle line backer, he wanted to get to “know me” a little better. LOL Nick Henderson is #55 for the Cobra’s and hung in like a champ last night. All of our guys filled his head with stories about me so… he just had to see / ask for himself. I explained to him that if I get to run the ball tonight we will know each other plenty… I also explained that if he wanted to tackle me, he’d better do it while we were in the huddle. LMAO..shouldn’t have told him that..he’s a BIG BOY! All kidding aside, the Cobra’s have been GREAT hosts and we have not only enjoyed the hospitality but taken notice as well. Here’s a shot of some of our gang along with Nick and his .???… gal

.
Ok, thats enough for now…I’m headed back to the pool for a bit. Will attempt another update later.. thanks for checking in on us.. GO RAMPAGE!!!!

Rampage make Charlotte

WOW!!! Did ya hear me?? WOW!!! The Roanoke Rampage football team has made it to Charlotte! First Charlotte is a huge city. Second, the Cobra’s are first class all the way! They are putting us up at the EpiCentre and it is AWESOME!

Any and everything you could ever need is right here. The rooms are great. A little “kinky” maybe but I guess “modern”, “Hip”, “cool”, “rad” or whatever the word is now for really really cool. They have all glass showers. Not like the frosted glass either … sparkling, crystal clear glass and no curtain. Funny little pillows, different colored walls and just an all around neat appearance. My only complaint would be the funny looking toilet. Mine is broken cause every time you flush, it sprays water all over your back and underside. Ok, maybe 2 complaints. It’s a little noisy across the hall. You see, I’m in room 822. Room 821 is across the hall and at first, I thought it was under construction. The door was covered in “scene tape” and looked like a crime scene. Well, closer inspection got me to smiling.

How lucky can I get??? A bachelorette party across the hall. Want even better? Well, remember Orlando and the fuss my cowboy hat, boots and buckle caused? Well, while taking the pic of the door tape… they opened it. Talk about excitement… “He’s here!” “He’s here!” …. “you are the dancer right?” LMAO! If you’ve ever seen me dance, you know I couldn’t lie to em. I tried to explain that “NO I am not the dancer, I was just taking a picture of your door.” As hard as it is to convince 1 sober woman of anything, imagine trying to convince a room FULL of … ummmmm…. errrrrrrr… well lets just say REAL happy and excited women. LMAO! I was almost killed and the football game ain’t till tomorrow night! Luckily, I made it out alive and down to the BlackFinnAmerican Saloon where the Cobra’s hosted a meal and adult beverages. Again…FIRST CLASS! Most of the gang is here while a few strays are just arriving…

Afterwards, some headed to Howl At The Moon (which we came to love in Orlando)while I hit WHISKY RIVER!! I’M IN HEAVEN! They have a mechanical bull and everything! They…. They….They… ah hell, just check out the link a few sentences back… We need one of these in Roanoke! Ok, just wanted to let you guys know we’re here and doing fine. A huge THANKS to the Cobra’s for all the hospitality! I’m heading back to Whisky River (had to run up and get my spurs) after a brief stop across the hall…. I can hear they’re playing my song…

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lND2JNGwvYg]

I’ll update ya in the morning…

19+ pics..gonna be another long one!

Geesh. I’m still here and been up sine 04:00 (Damn you Schmoe!) We actually caught a little work this morning. Well OK, 2 sheds aint really work but its the most fire Opie’s seen since they kicked us out of #9. I’m working today for Capt. “Bucket head” Craft on A-shift and we haven’t had a break yet. I was asked first thing this morning to step in and teach a master stream class. A little time and a lot of water with some old friends… brothers and sisters from stations #1, #4 and “The Deuce”. I made it back to E3 by lunch and started catching runs. A pretty decent MVA up by the Airport tunnel, a fire alarm and a ligit EMS run. Once again I’m covered in reports and paperwork..WooooooHooooooo! I’m so excited I could just sh….. uhhhh… cry. Anyhow, I thought you’d enjoy the pics… Here’s Opie on our multiple shed fire…

Poor little fella…all this EMT-I..working clinicals in the ER and OR stuff is making him soft. Well that and he’s out of practice.. 2 little sheds and he’s WHUPPED! LOL.

A big thanks goes out to our brothers and sisters from “The Deuce” and our Investigation Unit. Here’s a shot of Lt. Obrien and the best thing to come out of Covington…well except for 220 that is LMAO… Captain Thompson.

OK..So that was at 04:00 this morning. We got back at shift break, I had time to wash up, do a little book work and then we were off to Master Stream class. It was good to see the likes of ol Roger Guilliams, Tim Cady, “Tada Feets” Chuck Patrick, Meat and Chris Elmore. Here’s a few shots of them and the drill….

Just look at ol “Meat” up there loading hose with Ol Glory waving in front of him… brings a tear to my eye… and how about Guilliams in the little midget “rescue” hat? LMAO…110 years old and thinks he’s 20. I mentioned Chris Elmore and today was a very special day for him…IT’S HIS LAST! Yep, Elmo is leaving us for the railroad.. Good luck and best wishes brother..Choooooo Chooooooo

We weren’t the only ones out pumping today either. A few younger members were finishing up their DPO cert. and were out doing their practical. Winters, Rivers and Hull all 3 passed with flying colors! Congratulations! Here’s Winters in action..

They were having way too much fun to be testing… she even had ol “Guts” Gherman laughing…

I left there, caught a quick bite of lunch and started catching runs. A decent MVA with a high MOI (mechanism of injury). I called in the brothers from E5 to get the doors and B-post out of our way.. it makes things so much easier for the Pt, Medics, and firemen…. solid work today men.

After we got the pt out and headed to the ER, we hung around and lent a hand to the Airport guys in cleaning up the gaurdrail. Good torch drill….

Here’s “J.G” and “T-Bone” striking a pose after a job well done…..

Ok.. I’m tired but have to admit that I’ve enjoyed the busy day. It was great to see some old faces and the Boys here on A-shift have looked after me well! “Wingnut” Eric Mulford is wheeling me, “J.G” Jason Gardner is backwards while sexy Drew Able and his partner are on the gut wagon. Who’s his partner you ask? Well, he’s the best hammer swinger in this whole section gang… Big Dave Lucas is HIS name..

That little saying comes from the blue grass song “Big spike hammer”… it’s one of his favorites.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZWq6wNBecg]
Ok..that’s enough for tonight. Headed out for Charlotte NC tomorrow to play a little football! I’ll update from down there, the Cobras are throwing us a pre-game party Friday night, some practice, sight seeing and pool side rest on Saturday before our final game of the season and first night game. Come on out and cheer us on..see ya there.
Until then, stay safe and in HOUSE!

HUMP DAY!

Both ways…it’s Wednesday and our middle day..almost over the hump! How’s it going so far?? Hummmmmmmmm…. lets see?

Yep..that says “Wines” on the Medic! Opie was over at the ER again playing doctor so we got to bust up and scatter the crew for a while today. In the end, Joe and I ran our Medic and today was heart attack day. Oh no, I’m not talking about our patients..we haven’t ran the first cardiac call all day; I’m talking about all the Firefighters and Medics when they seen me roll out of the ambulance at the ER. LOL! “Everything ok Capt?” “Why you riding that thing Capt?” “Need some help with that Capt?” GIVE ME A BREAK! Scotty and I have been saying it for years.. this medic stuff is not rocket science. It’s band-aids for Pete’s sake…STICKY SIDE DOWN! That’s all you gotta know LOL. No actually it was kinda nice getting out and about today. A few calls, nothing too bad and all in all a good ride. I’ve needed the change actually. It’s evaluation time here and that on top of all the other paper work I’ve had has covered me up! Yea..I just love paperwork.

I’m about to pull my hair out but, the good news is that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it’s not a train LOL. Not too much more to say about today.. same ol, same ol. Now last day on the other hand was kind busy. I didn’t post much more than the Memorial Day content because I didn’t want to take away from that. But it seemed as though Last day was burnt food day…

That and running into the County day… for “burn food” of course. Here’s a few shots of Brothers from next door in the “high rent” district…

Don’t ya just love those yellow fire trucks?? NOT! LOL. We had a few visitors last day as well. One of which was now Retired K.B. “Mr pronunciation” Walker. K.B. stoped by to wish us a safe and Happy Memorial day as well as deliver a box of doughnuts.

Captain Mike Banks was working his last 17hrs up at ARFF last day. I think he was trading time or maybe working OT but either way, last day at midnight he was officially RETIRED so, he worked up until 23:59. Now that’s dedication! Rumor has it he’s buying a mansion in the Caribbean.

I’ve know “Michael Wayne” most of my life and will miss his “fretting”. He spent a lot of time over in S.E. at station #6 when my dad was there and they were running a ton of fire. I have some pretty good stories to tell on him but will hold of for a future post. So good luck and best wishes Mike! Here he is drafting his letter to the chief apologizing for being such a pain in their …. errrrrrrr I mean thanking them for all they’ve done and explaining how much he’s gonna miss this place…

We even caught a working fire last day with our brothers and sisters from E9, E5, L13, M9, B2 and RS1. There were 3 occupants (mother and 2 children) on the phone trapped above the fire. Turns out there wasn’t that much fire, and the boys from #9 got to her quick. We were 2nd in, laid the line and established command. A job well done by everyone. Check out the local coverage here. I mentioned paperwork, stress, pulling my hair out etc. but I think I’m catching on as to how to relax a little. A little less work and a lot more play! Rube Woolsey was in town this past week putting on a team roping clinic at a good friend’s barn. Rube is a National Champion and I even got the chance to hit the town with him for a few beers etc. Check out his web site and here’s a shot from the other night..

Sorry it’s a cell phone pic but hey…it’s Rube Woolsey! So that was cool. Want more stress relief?? Try camping on your own island down on Baden Lake in Albermarle NC.

HEY.. WATCH IT MISTER!!! That’s my baby sister… dirty ol firemen..LOL. Not enough relief yet?? Try renting a tube and floating down the New River..they even have tubes with nets over the bottom to carry your cooler full of ice cold ..ahhhh…errrr.. cool-aid… yea.. cool-aid..RED.

Sorry..another phone photo but hey..it’s the river :-) And for all you farm boys..YES I’ve been working a little too.. Sub-soiling and planting soy beans and millet

OK..I know it’s been a long one again so to wrap things up..ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL! Yep, the Roanoke Rampage play our final game of the season this Saturday night against the Charlotte Cobras. We play in Charlotte against a team who by all appearances will be the toughest we’ve faced all season. Charlotte is only 3 1/2 – 4 hours away so make your plans now to ride out and show your support. Most of the team is heading down on Friday. The Cobra’s are hosting a party for us that night.. maybe a short practice on Sat. morning, some pool or sight seeing time them our 1st night game! It’s gonna be a blast..Hope to see ya there. That’s it for tonight.. I’m off Friday but will try to update from Charlotte. Until then, stay safe and in the house.
