I wanted to give you all an update on the 13 day break. It’s been a good one so far and I’m looking forward to seeing her through. The title “The Eagle has landed” refers to our Roanoke Rampage Football team. We’ve landed in BEAUTIFUL Orlando Fla. to take on the Orlando Gaurdians tomorrow night. I don’t know, maybe I should have titled it the “buzzards” have landed (I’d have to consult Smurf to be 100% sure) but either way, we’re here..
The trip was good with no real problems. They only stripped searched the cops…(well almost). Apparently I set off a few flags in security. Yea.. I could have been butt naked but they stopped me. The security gal was not that hard on the eyes so when she said “Sir.. I need you to remove “this” piece of clothing and then “that” piece” etc.. I was going for naked! WoooooHoooo this is gonna be a good trip. We flew out of Richmond, Va this morning at 07:00 and landed safely by 08:40. A straight shot with good weather and no complications… here we are at the Orlando Airport..
Phillip Johnson most likely has had the best time of all. He finally got to meet a REAL…LIVE … flight attendant! Yea…he’s one of those Bedford County boys who has never flown. He said he’s heard of these “Angels of the Air” and seen em on TV but has yet to actually lay his eyes on one. Well, today his dream came true. You shouda seen him. Telling her stories of Bear hunting…trapping coons, possums and such. She was tickled! LOL Well, as excited as he was to see a flight attendant, wait until he sees the gals where we’re taking him tonight…
This outta be good LOL! Anyway, the weather is very nice but HOT. I must admit as well that Fla is nothing like Va. I haven’t seen a cow or horse yet! Heck…even the trees are different…. not an apple or acorn to be found
They don’t even cast a lot of shade??? Anyway, it’s different. The guys are kinda paying their own way here (hotel wise anyway) so most of us are sharing a room. I’m bunking with Stephen East from over at the “Ocho” (station #8 Southside). This was also Stephen’s first time on a plane. Stephen is a good guy. By that, I mean a “good guy” in all senses. I think he does well on the job but is also a VERY “straight forward” type person in life. He doesn’t drink…curse or raise a lot of hell per say (which is NOT a bad thing). The funny thing is that he’s rooming with ME! LOL. I’ll do my best not to scar him… here’s his pic.
Some of us had a short wait before we could check into our rooms but hey… you know firemen and cops can always find a spot to hang out…
Yea.. we’ll be ok. The hotel also has a very nice pool which I’ll be hitting in a few minutes. Probably no pics from there due to my ultra white skin. Anyways, the vacation has been going well. I’ve gotten some farm work done. The kids did a great job last week at the Central Va Livestock Show and Sale and will be up at Va. Tech again this weekend without me. Good luck to Taylor, Chigger, Kaitlyn and Jason. I know you’ll all do your best. I even managed to get a little time in on the river. OMG! NOTHING more relaxing than a lazy float down the river with a cooler full of cold beverages… I was scared to take the camera out in the canoe, but here’s a pre-launch shot..
I understand Eugene has been “cracking the whip” and getting the job done back at home. I hope they at least get the 5 inch tested. I also hope the boys are taking it easy on him and if you aren’t…. START! It’s just more paperwork for me when I come back LOL. Anyway, that’s about enough for now. I’ll try to update with team / game pics and/or an update of our mini-vacation if possible. We fly home Monday night and I’m back at work Thursday. If not before, I’ll see ya then. Until that time, stay safe and in house.
